Andre Cymone 1969
One of the architects of the Minneapolis sound, Andre Cymone’s credits include writing and producing for Prince, Vanessa Williams, and Tina Turner, and providing music for films such as Beverly Hills Cop and White Men Can’t Jump. Cymone’s influence is sited by stars from Questlove to Lenny Kravitz.
For over a decade Anansi Hayes Media has provided design, development and marketing for Cymone. His 5th solo album saw his sound steeped in the spirit of the civil rights movement and the summer of love. The artwork balances that retro aesthetic with clean contemporary typography, and mixes original images of Cymone by photographer Katherine Copeland-Anderson, archival photos from Woodstock and the March on Washington with Cymone’s own personal early 70’s photo collection, giving his fans plenty of easter eggs to hunt for. The marketing campaign set the tone for the album’s themes of righteous love and protest.
